Promote Global Health

ngoguide-report-ilga-head2LGBT and Intersex people have unique health needs, and homophobia and transphobia often pose particular barriers to accessing health services in many countries around the world. Council staff and member organizations pay particular attention to the impact of U.S. global health and HIV policies and funding on LGBTI communities. The Council promotes greater inclusivity and nondiscrimination in service provision in all foreign assistance grants and contracts, including those related to health. The Council collaborates closely with USAID and the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator on LGBTI health-related programs and needs. The Council also engages the Office of Global Affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services to encourage World Health Organization attention to barriers to health program access by LGBTI populations.
